Hi Sheila,
I think everyone here is ok. None of the members on the forum that I know of live in close proximity to the fire.
Although, one or two live in a community that would have a front row seat.
Reason it went so fast, there is much dead dry windfall wood in the eastern forests here as a result of hurricane Juan.
Then on top of that we have had a low pressure area stalled in the NE Atlantic over NFLD channeling strong winds into the region. The humidity has been low. So, all the ingredients were in places.
They are still working on it today. A couple of times last night the fire crowned and they had to get the engines, tankers and crew out and back to a staging area.
The wind today is diminishing and humidity is up more so than it has been in the last couple days, so they will probably make major headway with it.

Hi Sheila, I move the Forest fire thread from the Canadian Weather to the Doldrums forums. It will probably get better reception here.

The forest fire is not near me , so all is well here. Thanks for your concern Sheila.
I have only had 4.2 mm of rain here at my place so far this month , so things are starting to dry out now. Rain is forecast this week , I hope we get some ,...it is needed.

Some evacuees are being let back in their respective areas tonight.
The weather will be playing a major factor in the fire control overnight and into tomorrow.
Rain is forecasted for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Just about everyone in back in their homes today.
They lost two houses and damage to several others, which considering the size of the fire was exceptional.
The thing is if we have a dry summer this could be a repeat show since there is still much dead dry wood in the
forest as a result of hurricane Juan in 2003.
