Late this afternoon a line of thunderstorms have been passing north of Halifax. It has been a constant rumble for nearly the past two hours. I imagine people are having some prettyheavy down pours. Ron in Sackville is probably pretty close to ground zero.
Looks as though some intense showers passed south of Kentville not too long ago. Ron picked a bad time to head to the island, no first hand report from him! It`s always hard to judge the intensity on radar, there`s always a big difference between Halifax and Chipman (the latter always looks more intense). I was expecting the heaviest showers to remain closer to the Maine/Quebec border where the upper level conditions are more favourable. It`s generally more stable over NS except for local conditions such as a sea breeze which can spark up convection.
We had a line go through here. At times it was intense. We got the whole ball of wax. Lighting, heavy rain, gusty winds and hail a bit larger than pea size.
Just about every close lighting discharge we had a power bump. This lasted about 1.5 - 2 hours. I could not get a look at the radar because of the power bumps but I assume the line was from South to North and the entire line went over this area. This is why it probably lasted so long. The dog headed under the bed and was there almost the entire time.
I was talking to a couple of people on Hfx and it missed them to their East.
LOL, it was wild here for a while. In fact this is the first time I saw hail to that degree from a storm in quite some time.
Ron picked a good time to head to the island. Looks as though another cluster of storms developed over the Kentville region late this afternoon and evening. Must be some kind of local convergence going on down there.
