Hello friends
Enviroment Canada upgraded their lightning page recently?

What are your thoughts? Is this the best the public will get, my antique Atari 2000 from twnty five years ago had better quality graphics. These are so poor with blurred blocky squares showing where the lightning is.
Europe has a wonderul lightning detection system, clear and much better resoluton, they update data every 15 minute.

There are also personal lightning detection sites in Canada whose data updates much quicker

LOL, Yup, I know what exactly you mean.
I agree with weathergal, even some of the personal lighting detection stations are much better in time reporting and resolution.

It`s for public consumption and not for weather enthusiasts (weenies) like us. They are poor, very poor but marginally better than what they used to offer. I am not sure but perhaps their license agreement with Vasaila does not allow them to offer the better products which the meteorologists within the weather office use (much better), but even graphically speaking the map is damn ugly!
I had no idea they had been changed. It is a worthless product to me when the private stations offer a far superior map for regional locations. I`m afraid we are stuck with it.
I inquired with Vasaila about offering the lightning detection data on this site but their strict agreement and costs put me off.

Yup, Bob's exactly right.
EC doesn't own the data; Vaisala does. So the agreement with them is that they control the information flow, and this is what the public gets.
The data rates were so astronomical that The Weather Network even installed their own network rather than pay Vaisala's rates.
I'm actually surprised EC's lightning information page is even *that* good.
